The Anjou tote was named after the Duc d’Anjou, Charles 1st d’Anjou, brother of King Louis IX, known as “Saint-Louis”. Just as the Duc d’Anjou was the brother of King Louis IX, so the Anjou bag is the “little brother” of the emblematic Saint Louis tote.
This is also a reference to the province of Anjou, situated in the North West of France, which has been offered by Saint Louis to his brother Charles, thus making him the Comte d’Anjou.
